ABOUT UNFILTERED

unfiltered/ (ʌnˈfɪltəd) /

adjective

not having been toned down, censored, or edited.

We are a collective of young Black, Latinx, and Asian GLHS alum whose goal is to address the racism and racial prejudice that exists in the communities of Berkeley Heights and Mountainside, but also to create an open space to discuss our unfiltered take on uncomfortable topics in simpler terms. We believe that gaps in language and the use of new terminology can create a barrier to communication, to participating in conversations, and to raising awareness in our own community. Though we know that not every experience is a shared experience, nor should it be, we hope that Unfiltered will contribute to a shared understanding, so that we can all do our part to address racial and social injustice in our community. We recognize our privilege as residents of Berkeley Heights & Mountainside, and hope that you will join us as we continue to learn and to share our thoughts and experiences with the complex systems, narratives, and histories that frame our consciousness.

We want YOU to be a part of the conversation and we want to hear from you! We are open to suggestions for topics, even if they’re uncomfortable. Please feel free to reach out to us and to connect with us on our social media accounts!
